The LA Alliance for Science is establishing the LA Student Science Journalism Award to recognize the importance of science journalism and encourage careers in science communication.
The inaugural award will be granted to a student journalist who published a spectacular piece of scientific reporting during the current school year. The awardee will receive a $500 honorarium.
To enter the contest, undergraduate students are invited to submit a single story published in a student newspaper or magazine at a university or community college in Los Angeles County. We are especially interested in coverage of scientific issues that impact Los Angeles or that feature the work of Los Angeles scientists or institutions.
Entries are judged by clarity of science communication, scientific accuracy, local relevance, and value in fostering public understanding of science and its impact.
Entries for the 2018 award are now closed.
