Make Your Own GMO

We all are familiar with the term GMO but what does it really mean?

In this 1 day lab class learn what GMO means to a biologist. How does the FDA define GMO and what does that mean has happened to an organism?

Then actually get in the lab and make your own genetically modified organism. You will start with a harmless research strain of E. coli bacteria. Using a technique called bacterial transformation you will cause the E. coli to incorporate a sequence of DNA from ocean coral. Afterwards you will see that the bacteria are now producing brightly colored pigments.
